Erica Baurecht's artistic journey began in childhood, when she discovered her passion for drawing and painting. She later received private instruction from Romanian artist Tibor Fazakas, focusing on watercolor painting and pencil sketching.

Over time, her practice moved fully into acrylics and mixed media. Today, based in Playa Hermosa, Guanacaste, Costa Rica, her textural work draws on that early foundation while exploring an entirely different visual language.

Nature is one of my strongest influences, but so is human experience. I am fascinated by contrasts — darkness and light, strength and vulnerability, stillness and movement. In my work, simple figurative shapes meet abstract texture — this is where these contrasts come alive.

Living in Costa Rica has brought me closer to the elements, and using volcanic sand allows the landscape itself to become physically present in my work. Above all, I hope people experience something personal when they stand in front of my work — a moment of connection, reflection or stillness.

I usually begin with an idea or feeling rather than a finished image. I build the surface gradually and let the materials lead — texture, volcanic sand and gold leaf each behave differently, so there is always a dialogue between intention and what happens on the canvas. I know a work is finished when adding anything more would disturb its balance.

My way of sending it into the world filled with harmony, warmth and positive energy.
